Basically, anything past 2.82 does not work. GPU-based renders with Cycles put out garbage. Eevee is fine.
I bought 2 of these GPUs. Finally I installed every version from 2.75 to 2.93 and 2.82 was the sweet spot. 2.83.0 is where Cycles stopped working properly.
I am not the only one that noticed:
People have been complaining on AMD’s community forums and
speaking out on Blender’s bug report channel.
AMD issued their own render engine but it is not as good.
Lessons learned: Before buying a video card, check to see what apps don’t work with it well.
