I’ve been an admirer of David Fincher’s work (and by extension Jeff Cronenweth) for some time now. The last movie I’ve seen that they Cronenweth and Fincher have worked together was Gone Girl. If you’re curious, Satsuki Murashige (from cinematography.com) goes into detail on what Fincher’s process is.
For House of Cards Fincher tapped Eigil Bryld to shoot Season 1’s first 2 episodes which set the style for the following episodes. I’ve included the intro below as an example of that cinematographic style.
